The biggest warning signs are hidden reproduction status, implausible guarantees, inconsistent card details, unsupported stock or foil claims, vague delivery terms and pressure to buy without asking questions.
Information red flags
Be cautious when a listing avoids saying whether the card is genuine, calls an unofficial item “official” without evidence, or combines details from different sets. A seller who refuses to describe what buyers will receive is asking the customer to take unnecessary risk. A confusing listing can be unintentional, but it still needs clarification.
Image and physical-claim red flags
Watch for photographs that omit the reverse side while claiming identical backs, extreme shine that may come from editing, or claims such as “100% undetectable.” No single appearance test establishes authenticity, and a reliable seller should not imply otherwise. Physical specifications should be accompanied by relevant evidence or clearly framed as unverified.
Transaction red flags
Unclear currency, sudden unexpected shipping fees, missing support contact and impossible delivery guarantees deserve attention. Made-to-order status is not itself a problem; failing to communicate it can be. Evaluate whether the store offers understandable policies and responds to reasonable questions.
A practical next step
Use this quick screen: disclosure; consistent name/set/number; image description; evidence for technical claims; total cost; delivery timing; support contact; return terms; safe payment; recordkeeping. If several fail, choose a clearer listing.
Is a low price automatically suspicious?
Not by itself. Unofficial reproductions and authentic cards have different markets. More important is whether the seller accurately describes the product.
