Direct sunlight can contribute to fading and heat exposure over time. Store cards away from strong windows and display them in shaded positions if preserving colour matters.
Understand cumulative exposure
Light effects depend on intensity, duration and material sensitivity. A card sitting near a sunny window day after day receives more exposure than one viewed briefly under indoor lighting. Reflections can also create hotspots. A card's own age and materials influence the outcome, so there is no universal safe number of sunlight hours for every collectible.
Display with the environment in mind
Choose interior walls where direct sunlight does not strike the card. Protective framing materials may reduce some UV exposure, but they should not be treated as a guarantee against all fading. Keep cards away from heating vents, damp areas and surfaces that can trap heat. Temperature swings can affect storage materials too.
Document colours before changes occur
Photographs taken in consistent lighting provide a useful personal record. Because phone processing can alter colours, save the original file and avoid filters. For unofficial reproductions, record the card's status along with the image so the file is useful beyond the visual comparison.
What to do next
Observe your proposed display location across different times of day. If sunlight reaches it even occasionally, relocate the card or use a more protective, shaded presentation.
Does a plastic sleeve completely block UV?
Not necessarily. Protection varies by material, and ordinary sleeves should not be assumed to provide complete UV blocking.
