Stable, moderate indoor conditions are generally preferable to damp, hot or rapidly changing storage environments. Paper-based cards can be affected by moisture, warping and surface damage.
Why humidity is a concern
Paper fibres respond to changes in moisture. Even when the design looks fine, humidity may influence curvature and how a card sits inside a sleeve. Damp surroundings can also affect binders and packaging. Avoid placing a collection in basements or storage areas with known moisture problems unless the environment is controlled.
Temperature stability helps
Cars, attics and sunny windows can become much hotter than ordinary rooms. Heat may affect adhesives, sleeves or coatings in addition to paper. Rapid transitions between cool and warm humid air can lead to condensation on surfaces. The best long-term solution is usually an ordinary indoor space with predictable conditions.
Protect without sealing in moisture
A sealed container is not automatically safe if items were placed inside while damp. Check storage materials periodically, avoid contact with liquids and keep food and drink away from work surfaces. If a card appears warped, do not improvise aggressive heat or ironing treatments.
What to do next
Keep a simple storage routine: dry hands, clean sleeves, stable shelves, no direct sun, no drinks nearby and occasional inspection. A basic indoor hygrometer can help you notice unusually damp conditions.
Can I flatten a curled card with a hair dryer?
Do not apply concentrated heat. It can damage print, coatings and paper layers; seek conservative handling advice for valuable items.
